      While there are many historic concert halls in the D.C. area, no other venue in town has been the site of more acclaimed live albums by scheduled musicians than The Birchmere. Located just six miles from downtown Washington, in Alexandria, The Birchmere isn't your average concert hall; while its size makes it suitable for large audiences, the hall is also filled with quaint tables for the many diners that come to catch dinner and a show. The spacious hall has become an ideal place to catch popular musicians, and a favorite among the performers themselves.
      The Birchmere has gained a reputation for its schedule featuring both local and international names in country, folk, and bluegrass, as well as numerous other genres. Artists like the Dave Matthews Band, Four Bitchin' Babes, and Riders in the Sky have performed shows for live albums at the venue, and stars like Merle Haggard, Tom Morello, and Justin Townes Earle (as well as his father, Steve) still perform here. The space offers plenty of seating for large audiences and, unlike other venues, there's not much of a division between the stage and the audience. Also unlike other music venues, The Birchmere offers its guest full dinner service, with a variety of freshly made American, cajun, and southern dishes that put regular bar food to shame.
